its what I use but better...or are you looking for something strictly wireless? it all really depends on what you like. I know one guy who likes trackballs, another who likes huge mice. I personally have smaller hands and like my mice smaller and can't stand trackballs. Ultimately it is a matter of what do you want?

I use a basic Microsoft optical mouse because I don't like getting used to something then go to another computer and have to use something else. Plus they're cheap. I can divert my finacial resources into other big dollar components.

Ok the 510 arrived today and i have "played" with it all day. I am deeply impressed. Its a huge improvement over my old MS mouse in terms of speed and preciseness. Although i have to agree with crazijoe that getting used to it (which happened surprisingly fast) and then being forced to use a diffrent mouse again can be annoying. (i am on my 2nd PC right now and it feels like my hand is tied down - even though the pointer speed is at maximum).
I have to say one thing about the MX510 though - you might have some trouble if you have really big hands (i do). I cant really use the button behind to the roll wheel without uncomfortably bending my index finger. My wife (small hands) has no problems. But i guess i'll have to deal with this untill they start designing and making mice for diffrent hand/ finger sizes.

i like the wireless mouse with it's own nifty pad. i however have two mice i have. i use a kensington mouse.
well i have two of them, both optical, one wired one wireless. i like the wireless better as it fills my whole hand and it has nifty forward and back buttons and and also has nifty grippyness on both sides of mouse. i use the wired one more often as i need to get rechargeable battereis at some point in time ... when i do... wireless it is for me. hope the decision making goes well for you. ----EDIT---- i opted to vote for the mx1000 based on it's prettiness... i however would not pay 60$ for the mouse. i paid 40$ and i feel that was too much for mine.
