Atapi CD Drive Not Working Please Help

OK. I have had this problem for months and i cant find an answer. I'm using Windows 7 64bit and for some reason my CD drive just wont work. I put in any cd and it says "d: is not accessible" the disk structure is corrupted and unreadable" What does this mean? The drive used to work fine in vista before i got windows7. i have the latest drivers for my drive but in the device manager it pops up with some weird name. I have tried ALL of the following:

1. That upper filter and lower filter registry thing.... didn't work
2. switching out CD drives..... didn't work (OS problem? Motherboard Problem?)
3. Switching CD drive cables (IDE cables i think its called?) ... didn't work
4. Finding firmware on internet and installing..... didn't work

So i believe this is either a Motherboard problem (please god no) or a windows 7 problem. any help would be awesome.

PS: The Virtual drive programs is not affecting this problem i think. This problem still occurred without those programs.

Have you tried more than one disc in the drive?

Re: Atapi CD Drive Not Working Please Help

Try uninstalling the drive in device manager. Windows will reinstall on reboot.

Try your optical drive in another PC or try another optical drive in your PC.

Re: Atapi CD Drive Not Working Please Help

So Windows recognizes the drive(s), but not any discs?

Try removing/deleting the drive from Device Manager and rebooting.
Try removing/deleting the IDE controllers from Device Manager and rebooting.

Aside from that, if Windows sees the drive but not any discs, I'd suspect a faulty drive.

And if you haven't already, try another IDE cable.
