Sony DWQ58a DVD drive not working

My disc drive has stopped working , After burning 7 cds ok. I put in a disc ,dvd or cd and it whirs 4 times then goes quiet .all progs sat there is no disc in the drive any ideas out there ?

Lap top :-

Mobile AMD athlon (tm) 64 processor 3400+ 2.20GHz 960 MB of RAM
XP home edition version 2002 service pack 3

Uninstall the optical drive in Device manager..Windows qwill reinstall it when you reboot.

Laptop optical drives are generally low quality and are ptobne to early failure. Is the laptop still under warranty?
