"found new hardware nightmare"
Am trying to get the bugs out of an old Gateway GP pc that was reformatted with Win xp. First problem it "finds new hardware" repeated at startup, which shows up as Unknown device about 12 times in the device manager. Also the "PCI to ISA Bridge" & the "SM BUS CONTROLLER" cannot find drivers even when search internet. If you delete them and restart - same thing over again. Also will not recognize USB devices like wireless mouse & keyboard or a jump drive. And DVD player says it is missing video decoder. Is there a BIOS update or something that will help this PC. Have downloaded all the updates I could find and still same problems.

Re: "found new hardware nightmare"
What is the exact make and model or serial number for this Gateway?
From the sounds of it we need to locate the drivers for this. Bill |

Re: "found new hardware nightmare"
Look at the tag again and see if there is a model number on it (ex Gateway GP6-350)
If you are unable to find the model #, please run Everest (under my signature) and attach the report to the thread using the Go Advance option. Thanks, Bill Last edited by BCCOMP; 11-02-2009 at 09:57 PM. |

Re: "found new hardware nightmare"
Thanks, but I'm new to this forum and I don't quite know how to "run Everst, under your signature"....When I get to my office where the Gateway is right now I will look for a model number, but am pretty sure it doesn't have one. All it says on the front is GP. Did have some GP-700's and GP-750's close to the same model but this one is a 800Mhz proc. and has no model numbers on front. Thank you so much for replying, I will try to figure it out when I get to my office. thanks again (trying to fix this pc for a little home-school kid who needs it for school work.)

Re: "found new hardware nightmare"
Here is the link for Everest:
http://www.softpedia.com/progDownloa...oad-16369.html Download and run the program. It will produce a report and tell me what I need to know. Copy and paste the FULL report to notepad and save the report Attach the report using the Go Advanced option on the thread. Thanks, Bill |

Re: "found new hardware nightmare"
Hi,
Go here and install this driver: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...=8178&lang=eng Let me know what errors are left in the Device Manager (yellow !) The report shows 2 errors. This driver should take care of both. Bill |

Re: "found new hardware nightmare"
Go to the Device Manager
Right click on each one of these devices (unkown device) and select uninsiall Do this for each device (unkown device). If XP prompts you to reboot DO NOT (select Cancel) until ALL the unknown devices are selected and unistalled. Reboot the computer If the "NEW HARDWARE WIZARD" appears select Cancel each time. Go back to the Device Manager If you have an error (like above) please do this: Right click on the error>Properties>Details Tab Post the info you find under Device Instance ID Do this for each error you have Is this XP install Legit? Re: "found new hardware nightmare"
Well here goes....I uninstallerd all of them (which I had done at least 6 times before) and some would go away, some would not, some would ask if I wanted to restart, some did not, but when I did restart after I deleated all but two that would not uninstall, they all came back. Here are the details in picture form cause they would not copy & paste....looks like can only send 2 at a time....
