Strange monitor problem (Asus VW246H)

I got a new Asus monitor to replace my old one.
(Going from ViewSonic VX922 18" to Asus VW246H 24")

My new monitor keeps saying "no DVI signal" when I use the DVI cable it came with. And it's the same deal if I use my old cable.

The only way I can get my NEW monitor to work is if I start up my computer using my OLD monitor. (And I must use the same cable)

Essentially, I must do this:
1. Start up computer with my OLD monitor.
2. Unplug DVI cable from OLD monitor and plug it into my NEW monitor.
*the other end of the DVI cable is attached to my graphics card the entire time.

However, I do not need to do this all the time. Once as I can get my new monitor working, it will work fine with subsequent reboots. Once as I try to change the cable, the new monitor stops working.

Also, my old DVI cable (the one that came with my old ViewSonic) seems to work better in terms of making the new LCD work.

My graphics card is an EVGA 8800GTS 320MB Superclocked Edition, if that makes any difference. Hopefully, it's not my graphics card because I don't want to have to dish out more money to replace that, too (my monitor is non-refundable).

I would really love to have this issue resolved.

I'm also running Windows 7 Home Premium.

Old monitor resolution is 1280x1024
New monitor resolution is 1920x1080

- I first noticed this problem when I tried using the new cable. I used my old DVI cable first, since it was already hooked up.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Strange monitor problem (Asus VW246H)

Now, upon the latest restart, my screen flickered and had random streaks of green that appeared and disappeared at the bios logo screen.

When it showed the Windows 7 loading screen, there were vertical streaks running through all colors and letters.

When Windows 7 finally booted up, colors returned to normal.
