Dell 2407WFP problem

The monitor itself works fine. The usb support (keyboard, mouse) does not. I have tried 2 different cables with no luck. The mouse and keyboard work fine when plugged into the computer. Could this be a driver issue? Was working fine, turned system off, next time it was turned on, wouldn't work.
Win Vista home basic
AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core 6000 3.1GHz
2 GB ddr2
Thank you
MJ

Re: Dell 2407WFP problem

I'm confused
*The usb support (keyboard, mouse) does not.
The mouse and keyboard work fine when plugged into the computer.*

Re: Dell 2407WFP problem

Yes. This monitor has a usb input (from computer) that enables you to plug usb keyboard and/or mouse directly into monitor for less cable clutter. The mouse and keyboard work fine when plugged into computer but not when plugged into monitor. I have tried different cables to the input on the monitor.

Ah......... I got it now!
Do and other USB devices work in the monitor's USB ports?
Perhaps it doesn't have enough power for the keyboard/mouse?
Have you tried the keyboard or mouse plugged into the monitor individually?

Re: Dell 2407WFP problem

Thank You-
After reading your response I did some testing and came up with some strange results. I tried an external HD and it worked so I started testing with the mouse and keyboard and they seemed to only work intermitantly. What I did notice was the computer will not shut down or start up while the usb cord to the monitor is connected. Vista "shutting down" screen stays on for 10+ minutes and will finally shut down when cord is unplugged. The same with startup. Vista boots fine up to the point that the sign-in screen is supposed to show. (the screen where you pick user and enter password) This screen won't appear until I unplug the usb to the monitor. I am beginning to think the usb hub in the monitor is defective.
Any thoughts
I will check back after work
Thank you
MJ

Re: Dell 2407WFP problem

I would have to agree with the monitor being at fault or perhaps the keyboard mouse? What Brand & Model is the monitor and the mouse/keyboard?
I have a Dell LCD with USB ports but I've never tried a USB mouse or keyboard with them. Flash drives & Hdd's both work with it.
I would think using the USB ports on the PC would be a better situation anyway.

Re: Dell 2407WFP problem

Saitek Eclipse keyboard
Razor Diamondback mouse
Dell 2470WFP monitor
I believe the usb hub in the monitor is faulty because just having the cord plugged in from the PC without either mouse/keyboard will cause malfunction. I don't see any easy way into the monitor to replace. <30$ for usb hub @ tigerdirect.
Thanks for your input.
MJ out.
