Dual monitor problem

Hello, let me start with my system specs:

Nvidia GeForce 8400
dual 2.4 GhZ processor
3 gb ram
Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit

Yesterday my mother bought me a adapter that allows me to plug in 2 monitors at the same time because there is only 1 slot available. Now we plugged it in and it worked but also didn't work. I see the exact same thing on my both monitors. Like they are clones, I would like to ask you guys/girls how to fix this so I can use them appropriate.

This is how it looks like when I open the right thing in Command Center. It's in dutch so I will tell you what everything means:

Beelscherm = Monitor
Niet actief = Non active
Hoeveelheid kleuren = Amount of colours
Dit is mijn hoofdscherm: This is my main moniter
Het bureablad naar dit beeldscherm uitbreid = Extent the desktop to this monitor.

Re: Dual monitor problem

If you only have 1 port the displays will only show the same on both, to have dual displays you need a video card with dual ports.

Re: Dual monitor problem

Thanks for your respond, so that means I have to buy a new video card? And does every video card fit in my computer and work? Or is there any selected list I can choose from?

Re: Dual monitor problem

It's from HP, don't know what brand but it says on the shellcase: HP Pavilion

I intend to play games, Left 4 Dead 2 for an example.

Re: Dual monitor problem

For gaming, but don't think I will buy a new one. I'll just drop the dual screen and continue to use one. Thanks for your help :D
