Exclamation can i use usb port to power my mp2 player?

i have a little mp3 player that i only use when in my room and it eats the batteries up in 60 mins! it runs on one 1.5 V battery and i understand that 2 of the 4 wires within a usbport/cable conduct 1.5 V can u cut up and strip a wire and rig it to the player?( to the battery prongs) will it work? ( if i plug the other end into my laptop when its running? ) can i power my mp3 player like this?

This is incorrect, Vbus on all versions of USB carry +5volts. Here is a link giving the pinouts.

Obviously, a direct connection isn't a good idea. It could be done but you will need a regulator to drop the voltage.
