just wondering if anyone is prepared to share their thoughts/ideas/experiences regarding selection of NAS hardware for use in the home.
essentially I'm looking for a RAID 1 dual bay drive enclosure with psu for storage and backup of home data and media files; after surfing the web for the past few hours I'm worse off (confused) than when I started (a NAS hardware ignorati). should I be too hung up on Sata I v Sata II v Firewire v eSata? looking for the capability of a disk capacity nom. 1 TB (each hdd); regarding other features/options I don't have any strong view either way or am poorly informed as what is of 'significant' consideration. my 'starting' budget is £150 tops (atm) but is subject to review following any contributions from forum members. thanks for your contribution ![]() regards, yoyojoe

Most NAS boxes are expensive...likely much higher than your current budget. You then also have to include the HDD cost.
Also, NAS boxes are LAN based. So USB/SATA/Fireware are irrelevant. They connect to your home network via RJ45 cable. They are network devices. You can get external storage devices that use RAID. Such as this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817198032 For external storage, you will be looking for a drive bay that supports SATA drives (I or II - it doesn't matter, although most new units will support both). You will also want an eSATA connection or Firewire connection for speed. And an example of a NAS box: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822122045
