That depends on your motherboard. If its dual channel capable then 2x512Mb is the way to go.
Depending on your budget and how much performance you want even if your motherboard is single channel you can still benefit from 2x512Mb modules because 512Mb sticks are available with faster timings. It would really help to know what your current setup is, CPU and motherboard - and around how much you can/want to spend and we can probably narrow down the ammount of modules to choose from for you.

Geil 3200 ultra-x 1gig kits are pretty awesome ram, as well as ocz 3200 el revision 2 1 gig kit. Both of these will do 2-2-2-5 timings, pretty expensive though but definately some good ram. Might want to have a look at some 'mushkin' ram as well.

OK i just looked up your specs and it seems the highest (fastest) memory your PC supports is DDR266. I looked at newegg and a few other companies i usually buy from and most dont really much much DDR266 anymore (if any) or you dont save anything compared to buying DDR400.
So if i was you i'd get some decent priced DDR400 Value Ram from one of the more reputable companies like corsair, kingston etc. (DDR400 can run at slower speeds without problem) Something like this: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...145-440&depa=1 Unless you plan on upgrading your motherboard very soon (within the next half year or so) would be a waste of money to buy much more expensive low latency RAM which your board cannot take advantage of anyways. If you have any other questions just ask.

Those corsair are actually 2 sticks of 512Mb each. If you want to have one stick of 1Gb you have to spend a lot more (140-150$).
And yes i believe they will work in your motherboard.
