Problem in Capturing video through Firewire
Hi,
I am having a system with following config: P4 3.06GHz, PT800CE-A Motherboard ECS WinXP Home edition, 512 MB RAM, 160GB HDD My System is working fine, the actual problem is when I am trying to capture Video through Firewire from my Digital Camcorder, when I click capture button/Start Capture. System is getting restarted. I giving here the steps which I have taken so far for resolving this. 1. I tried to change the captrue software, thinking it is a software issue. I used Windows Moviemaker, Nero and Ulead, but nothing worked. 2. I tried to update the driver files for Firewire, downloaded the latest drivers and still problem is not resolved. The hardware profile shows the driver and device working fine. 3. I changed the Firewire cards, thinking problem is with that, changed three cards but none of them worked. 4. Then I thought it is the problem of OS, I tried to capture on Winxp PRO/Home and Linux but all three having the same problem. 5. Some body adviced me to check the BIOS settings and check IRQ, but no conflicts there also. 6. Then I thorugh the problem is with camera, but I am able to capture pictures perfectly through USB Cable, and also in DV mode on my laptop, there it is working fine (no issues with camcorder). So I got no clue on what happening, the problem lies where? Is it a problem with my mother board, I need to do any BIOS updates, currently on Pheonix Award BIOS A 1.1. Pl help me. Thanks in advance. I have an identical configuration and the same problem. I can download video from my Sony camcorder via firewire for a few minutes but inevitably my system will quit. Usually after 2-3 minutes, but sometimes only a few seconds and sometimes up to 10 minutes. Usually the screen freezes and I have to press the power button. Sometimes I get a "Hardware failure" message.
I have replaced the mobo, processor, firewire card, memory, video card, power supply, hard disk, monitor, mouse, keyboard, op sys, software, cables, basically everything but the case. No improvement. I tried updating the flash to Rev E using the software on the www.ecsusa.com web site, but got "unknown flash memory" and "flash block erase failure" messages, if I recall correctly. I emailed ECS tech support a few days ago with no reply. It's funny that the computer works fine for everything except downloading video. I'm about ready to junk the mobo and try a different brand. Please post any possible solutions. Last edited by bikejeff; 03-16-2005 at 10:13 PM. |

I also sent an email to the ECS guys and no response from their end. I spoke to some sales guy at Fry's (that where i bought the mobo), he said these are not real quallity boards, so i am thinking of changing the motherboard
