Weird lag for specs :(
Basicly i have ubuntu 9.04 32 bit, and vista 32 bit (sp1)
And here are my specs: ( 4 gb of ddr2 ram nvidia 8600 gt (512 mb ram) amd duel core 64 bit (2ghz) 550 wat psu 2 hard drives ) the computer base model (without my upgrades) Hp Pavilion a1600n I get very bad lag, in vista, and ubuntu.. i cant tune up the settings much and in halo 2 (in vista) i get massive frame stutter that seems to get worse as i play it more. I also get lots of mouse lag, whenever. (but not in ubuntu) |

Re: Weird lag for specs :(
I have a hunch that this has something to do with the graphics card.

First I would try reinstalling the graphics card driver. Quote:

Re: Weird lag for specs :(
The brand of psu is ultra...
Oh and btw... Ive already installed the latest drivers (tried forceware too) and ive tuned all the settings in nvidia control panel down. For best preformance. |

Re: Weird lag for specs :(
Poor quality PSUs are inefficient, don't provide stable power under stress and can cause overheating.
A good quality Corsair 550W will give about 460W under stress, and a poor quality 550W unit will only give about 280-380W. This lack of power can cause the computer to lag. Boot into BIOS and post back with the temperatures and voltages.

Re: Weird lag for specs :(
OK, see if you can get the temperatures and voltages during fullscreen gameplay with Everest.
Leave it running on the desktop with the Computer>Sensor window showing, then play Halo for a few minutes until it starts to lag. Alt-Tab back to Everest and take a screenshot. It should show the temperatures for the motherboard and hard drive (and possibly the graphics card), and the +12V output from the PSU. Post back with the screenshot.

Re: Weird lag for specs :(
nope looks like it dosent give any information at all
the best i could do was a nvidia system monitor that monitors lots of the temporature every 10 seconds http://aklem.com/NVMonitorLog10231655.xml |

Re: Weird lag for specs :(
if some of those temps are to be believed (motherboard and hard drive temps) then they are too hot. But then again nvidia monitor isn't very good.
you should be able to enable the readings in the bios, press enter on the disabled word to enable them. PLus tells your voltages.
