problems with microsoft lifecam vx-1000
Requesting help from my fellow internetters--my tech-savvy brother is away until tomorrow.
I borrowed a webcam from my friend and installed the LifeCam 1.4 software that came with it. Then I opened the Microsoft Lifecam software and recorded a short test video. When I double-clicked the video to see if it would work, a BSOD popped up. I'm not much of a computer person, so I didn't really understand anything that was written--I just pushed the power button to shut down and again to turn my laptop back on. I installed the latest LifeCam 3.0 software to see if that would solve the problem, but I still got the BSOD. I also checked to see if the graphics card driver is up to date [it is]. I have no idea what's wrong. I've just uninstalled everything so I can start from a blank slate. tl;dr: attempting to use the Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000 has resulted in multiple BSODs. Part of the BSOD error message: something to do with "nv4_disp.dll" [I googled this and think that it NVIDIA graphics card? I'm fairly certain the driver is up to date.] [I think it also mentioned something about "BIOS," but from what I can tell, that is way over my head, so I haven't really attempted to "fix" that.] Summary of information which may or may not be relevant: - device I'm trying to install: Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000 - accompanying software / driver / whatever it's called: LifeCam 3.0 - operating system: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 - graphics: NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M - processor: Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.40 GHz - 2 GB of RAM, about 70 GB of free disk space - machine: Dell E6400 laptop Sorry if this was a bit long / redundant. Or if some of this stuff was useless. I was trying to be as clear and informative as possible >__> If you'd like, I can reinstall the webcam and make another BSOD appear so I can write down more specific information. Thanks so much for any advice you may be able to give! |
