USB Ports won't work-WindowsXP
I plugged a ditigel camera into one of my usb ports. As soon as I powered the camera the PC froze and I had to restart it. When it finally booted up it would not recognize the monitor. After several attempts the monitor finally worked but now, none of the usb ports will recognize hardware attached to them. I have a wireless adapter attached to one of the usb ports and have tried jump drives and other removable storage devices but the computer wont recognize anything attached to usb ports. I went through the device manager and checked to see that the usb ports listed were working properly and went through the BIOS to be sure they were all enabled.
Im runnining an ASUS Motherboard P4P800 SE and have calls into their support but they never return calls or emails. I'm hoping I wont have to reset the CMOS, mess with the registry or reinstall Windows. I would appreciate any ideas regarding how to get this resolved. |

The easiest course of action in such a situation is to uninstall ALL references to USB devices from Device Manager, then reboot. Windows XP, with at least Service Pack 1, will then find "new" hardware and reinstall the drivers automatically. It's quick, easy, and works most of the time. Good luck.
