windows can not recognize???

well i have the iPod shuffle and every time i plug it into the usb port i get a balloon that says windows can not recognize the usb device and i have no idea why. there is nothing wrong with my iPod cause its new and it works in my friends computers with the 64 bit version of iTunes for vista but ive got an xp so i got the 32 and i tunes finally works on my computer but no matter what i do after i troubleshoot the usb and everything i always get the same thing....... please help!!!!

Do you have USB 2.0 working? Do you have SP2 or SP3 on that rig? Any red or yellow marks in the device manager? Have you tried updating drivers under the USB area?
