Recently my Maxtor Basic 1TB External Desktop Hard Drive fell and when I turned it on to check is made a really ugly whirring noise and was no longer detectable on my PC or Laptop. I took it to the store where I bought it and they had NO idea what to do about it, so I brought it into the IT guys here at work who tried all sorts of software in an attempt to detect it, then proceeded to pull the hard cover off in the hope that there was some obvious physical ailment that could be fixed. NOTHING......
I am now wondering if anyone knows what I should do, who I should see or where I should go to attempt to have the data retrieved from it. There is about 10 years of photos on the hard drive and I would desperately like to get them back (you're not going to believe this, but the discs that contained the photos were lost with my laptop when it was stolen several months ago and I hadn't gotten around to re-burning them - talk about bad luck). I am in Melbourne, Australia and REALLY REALLY need your help. Thank you. |

Re: 1TB External Desktop Hard Drive Damaged
i suppose i'd pull the hard drive out and get a new enclosure to put it in. I think the components of the external device would break before the hard drive itself. if it works it's a cheap fix. if not, then at least you know you gotta take it to some professional. an enclosure is will only cost about $20 (newegg or tigerdirect if your stateside). just my .02
hope you get your data back. let us know. |
