Disk drive not reading?

Hey I have a CD that has a program burned on it, when I put it into the computer, it shows a little icon of a disk on My Computer which means its read a disk that is in there, then I try to open it or explore it and then it just opens the drive back up and says "Insert disk" or something like that, but theres one in there. This has happened to more than one disk before, but now its starting to get stupid.

I am running windows vista.

Try another CD and see if the problem still happens.

Re: Disk drive not reading?

Test the disc on another computer to see if its contents are displayed in Windows Explorer. If you get the same problem, try using a lens cleaner then burn again at a slower speed.

What burning software are you using, and what make are the discs?

Re: Disk drive not reading?

You have the signs of a failing optical drive. Try what koala has suggested and you can give this a shot; http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_d...cd_dvd_fix.htm

Re: Disk drive not reading?

Tyree, your link is for an XP-only program. Agentjayd007 is using Vista.

If it's just the registry edits for upper and lower filters, do you know if it's safe to use in Vista?

Re: Disk drive not reading?

I think I didn't explain this right heh, im not trying to burn a CD, I can do that. I have a CD that used to be blank, my friend put a program on the CD that I am trying to run on my computer. Another friend of ours was able to put the program on his computer with no problem, but not mine. Im not trying to burn anything, just trying to run a install program off of the burned disk.

Re: Disk drive not reading?

If the CD works on another computer but not yours, try a lens cleaner. If that doesn't work, try a new data cable or replace the drive.
