EasyCap sound issues

As far as I can tell from the vast ammounts of forum posts across the web the EasyCap is notably bad for issues. Lets start from the beginning of the problems.

I purchased the device as a seemingly cheap method to record footage from VHS or gaming consoles. It was perfect for what I wanted which was to record in-game footage from consoles. My first problem came about when the device only worked in one USB slot. And i mean worked in the broadest sense ever, the program which it came with wouldn't record anything, however I could get a feed using it as a webcam over MSN. Realsing there was a bug in the driver software I updated it the latest version of 1150. And aquired the latest version of the Ulead video software; Ulead Video studio 11; that was recomended for the Easycap.

The device is still seemingly incapable though of recording sound. Any sound recorded is either a constant high pitched squeel or a pattern of quite blips, or in some cases nothing at all.

I cannot change any settings in the capture program as it simply states that all sounds are passed through my soundcard rather than giving a list of options. Which brings me to my problem. I don't have the confidence to change any settings on my soundcard with no real knowledge of what i'm doing, and I can't seem to find them anyway. Either that or the device itself is broken, in which case there is nothing that can be done. Can anyone help with this issue?

My PC is a HP laptop, running on vista.

Re: EasyCap sound issues

In addition, I have just discovered, that if I record video with no audio inputs what-so-ever I still get the same droning sound. It's very confusing >:(
