Potential DVI Connection Problem - Help Diagnose!

Hi all. I found http://www.playtool.com/pages/dvitro...vitrouble.html extremely helpful in regards to enlightening me about DVI connections, but I had a follow-up question or two (and was directed to here). I hope you can help; I have scoured the internet for my problem and found nothing.

I recently bought an Asus VH242H 24" LCD monitor. I hooked it up to my MacBook Pro via single-link DVI-D. Immediately, I noticed some pretty bad pixelation problems, especially with areas fading to black. (Specifically, this picture: http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper_b...f_the_sky.html). I get a truly hideous pixelated ring around the photo on the new monitor.

I have tested the monitor through VGA and it looks pretty good. I tested it through HDMI (Xbox 360) and it looks GREAT. So what's the deal?

I also tested the DVI-D to another PC and the pixel problem remained. So, I am thinking one of four things:

1) The monitor is cheap and sucks. It did, however, get excellent reviews on Newegg.
2) There is a problem with the DVI input on the monitor.
3) There is a problem with the DVI output on my MacBook Pro (unlikely -- tested the DVI connection with another PC).
4) (My new favorite choice after reading that article) I should be running a DVI dual-link rather than single because of the high resolution.

Any input is GREATLY appreciated. I am going crazy over this. I can try to RMA it, or I can buy a new DVI dual-link cable. Any thoughts?

(The monitor shipped with the single-link, if that makes a difference).

I have got the exact same problem but with a hyundai 24" monitor. Did you manage to solve the problem?
