[SOLVED] Tower on top of Subwoofer
I looked around, this seems to be the most appropriate section of the forum to post this.
So I have a nice computer tower around $1200 worth of equipment. It is positioned on-top of my polk 120 watt subwoofer ~ the sub may not be power packed but it still manages to shake my house. Seriously I can here things move when this is maybe half power. The tower is on the sub and the setup looks pretty sweet. The tower is elevated about 5 inches via legs in the case design. At low output, general listening, will this sub destroy components in my tower with moving parts? Eg: Fans (I have 7) and hard drives (3 inside +1 esata) |

Re: Tower on top of Subwoofer
building section is for what components to buy for a system
if the sub did not come shielded i would think the magnet would be the silent killer

Re: Tower on top of Subwoofer
For the section, what would be a better place? exactly.
It's shielded, it's a $250 sub, it's of the best quality, second to paradigm. The real question is will the vibration eventually cause writing inaccuracies on the disk? Or are modern drives better than that? |

Nice politician answer. You didn't exactly answer, just told me something I already knew.
Well, I'm going to move the tower off of the sub, just for safety. Whether it's on top of or in proximity to it, I think the vibrations will still effect it unless I cover the entire case in foam, and put springs on the legs. |

Re: Tower on top of Subwoofer
I wouldn't place a PC on a subwoofer.
Subwoofers use lower frequencies (I have my Klipsch set to crossover at 80Hz) and their traveling distance is pretty minimum. Placing the PC a few feet away should isolate it.

Re: Tower on top of Subwoofer
Well the space is minimal. I'm big on sound and not TVs so I only have a computer desk with 2 monitors, 2 floor standing polks on each side, a sub kind-of in the middle with the tower on top, the receiver on another desk ~ 5 feet away from computer so there's no interference and 2 sony's in the back above the couch.
It's hard to center the speakers and keep it proportional while not stacking items. |

Re: Tower on top of Subwoofer
Well I read about it, you're quite right. That's actually what a family member of mine recommended, he has a ridiculous paradigm system.
The basement is a rectangle, and my desk is in the middle with the couch and all. The closest corner is ~ 10 feet away. So even though it would sound better/project sound better I think it would really be one sided. Thanks for the help though. |

Re: [SOLVED] Tower on top of Subwoofer
If at all possible, try placing it in a corner. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the difference.
