Re: need some help
Hi,
Welcome to TSF. What model adapter are you trying to use? From what you have said, are you trying to connect a VGA cable to the DVI connection on the monitor? Why not use the VGA connection on the monitor?

Re: need some help
In order for me to help, I need to know what model, brand, etc. of adapter you are using.
I asked about the cable since your monitor has both digital (DVI-D) and analog (SUB-D) inputs. Does you video card have just DVI-D outputs or DVI-D and SUB-D? Where are you putting the adapter (at Computer or Monitor end)?

Re: need some help
I would connect the VGA cable directly to the SUB-D connector on the monitor.
Why do you want the DVI-D. I don't know of an adapter that can convert analog signals to digital (that is cheap). Even if one were available, you would not gain any performance since you are starting with analog.

Re: need some help
There is a difference if you have a digital output from your computer (DVI-D) if it is analog (a SUB-D connector) then converting it will produce no greater performance than what it started with, analog. They make an VGA to DVI-D converter but they cost around $300 and they can not make something better than it was to start with. To get digital performance, your computer (graphics card) must have a digital output and most modern ones do, in fact most new ones only have DVI. That is why the low cost adapters were made, to allow you to connect a newer graphic card to an old monitor.
