Computer freezes every time I start it.

When I start my comptuer, it freezes. It works for about 10 sec to an hour and then nothing works, not even the mouse.

Here's my specs:
Quote:
Motherboard: DFI Lanparty 865PE
Memory: 1gb
PS: 500 wat
Video Card: ATI Radion XT850 Pro 256 mb
2 hard drives, Win Xp on both.
2 monitors, with the desktop extended.

The computer freezes on both hard drives. I tried safemode on both, also freezes.

What could be causing the problem?

What are your temps like. What brand of 500watt psu? Run memtest
on ram. If you have a cheap power supply that could be the issue..

I'll give you all that info when I get home.

btw, if it's the power supply, wouldn't the computer restart instead of freeze?

Re: Computer freezes every time I start it.

Not necessarily. A weak psu can cause all kinds of wierd issues. Ive had
one that would freeze from time to time, get laggy, different bsod errors
couldnt figure out what the problem was. It was a quality psu, but
old. Then one night while on the internet the screen just froze, sound
still going but looping. I rebooted thinking it would clear it up. Wouldnt
turn on. Psu died and took a $200.00 + mobo with it...can be expensive
when you flirt with cheap or old worn out psu's..
