Okay so I just realised that I hadn't given thought no. 1 to how I would connect to the internet with my soon-to-be-built gaming computer, and that I have zero idea what part (or parts) I need to allow said computer to access the Atheros 5008 Wireless Network Adapter (w/e that is >,>) that my laptop connects to through the mysteries of built-in wireless.
And I have no clue if this influences my choices or not, but as was suggested to me earlier I'm using the $800 Intel Build posted in the sticky (with a case and CD/DVD burner swap out - the burner listed is no longer available). Thanx! ^_^ |

two choices
A) use a hard wire from your router to your new computer which has built in LAN on motherboard (best choice = hard wired for gamers) B) install a wireless network card http://www.belkin.com/support/produc...D7050&scid=221 0r http://www.google.com/products/catal...m=6#ps-sellers

Well if wired is better then that's what I'll do!
The router we use now is an old D-Link with only 4 ports, and the 8 port ones I see are either retarded expensive (at least for a home network) or have really low ratings, so would a switcher be better? Like this one D-Link 8-Port Unmanaged Gigabit Desktop Switch? I'm sorry to be asking such basic, stupid questions but you've been so helpful and I don't know where else to ask. *sheeps* |

Re: Wireless internet for my new build?
personally I would stick with the old 4 port D-link; unless its too much wire or PITA to connect to ?
the money spent on a state of the art router isnt going to improve over what you got now ? otherwise you looking at dumping $100.00 on a new router ................... I would pass on that one personally

Re: Wireless internet for my new build?
Do not use belkin usb 2.0 adapters- they suck
Any other adapter will do netgear, linksys etc a belkin executive was busted about 9 months ago for paying people to write fake positive reviews for belkin wifi products on amazon.com and other web vendors. If cable connection is convenient use that- only use wifi if you have to but definitely not belkin - they are v.v.failure prone. Last edited by steveb1234; 06-18-2009 at 06:45 PM. |

Re: Wireless internet for my new build?
Ah cool! Thanx for the links, linderman. ^_^
So could I combine the D-Link DIR-655 and this so that I don't have to run around disconnecting things in order to game? |

I will defer to others on that configuration; I have never had the need to try one of those....
