Power Switch

Okay, here's my problem: The button that turns on the computer doesn't work anymore. I was wondering what would be some reasons for this and how to fix it. I saw the "how to bench test your computer" thread and it said to touch two of the pins with a screwdriver; well I tried that and it didn't work.

I have a Sigma Unicorn case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811226031

an ASUS Striker II Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131293

And this PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817379009

Thank you for helping!

Re: Power Switch

Can you borrow another power supply to try in there? Sometimes, even a new one can tank, so you have to RMA it for a replacement. If you touched the two pins like described in that sticky and it didn't come on, it is likely NOT your switch that is bad.

Re: Power Switch

Well there are lights on the mobo that turn on when I plug in the computer. Should I still try a different power supply? Also I don't have a spare PSU that I can use; I'll have to go and buy a new one.

Also, I'm looking for some things that I could do to easily fix it. If none work then I'm planning on handing it over to a computer repair shop. But I want to try to do it by my self first.

Re: Power Switch

Did you try all the things in the Bench Build Sticky? I would go that route if it were mine to see what interventions might do for you.

Is this a new build or has it worked before?

Have You:

reseated the 24 pin ATX connector?

Connected the motherboard molex from the power supply?

Connected the CPU/Heatsink fan?

Does it do anything and if so, what does it do? (like does it start for an instant and then nothing????)

Re: Power Switch

Well, I hadn't tried everything in the bench build guide. But, it was working before. When it stopped working I had found the computer on (when it was supposed to be off) and the fan was continuously running. The power and reset buttons were unresponsive so I unplugged the power cable and the buttons have been unresponsive since.

edit: also there was nothing on the monitor when I found it on.

I'll do the whole bench build thing, but it'll take me while to get around to it. I'll post a reply when I've finished.
