Monitor-beyond saving?

I was playing my computer normally when all of a sudden, the monitor automatically went into sleep mode. When I tried to get out of that, I went directly to a blue screen. Now whenever I start my computer normally, I get a blue screen before I can get to the enter password for my user screen. I tried loading up in safe mode, and it did load up, but all the color is off and grainy and their are sets of 4 vertical lines in a pattern across the screen. I tried to call tech support but as my computer is out of warranty, they will not even talk to me unless they bill me 49.99 or 99.99. And even then I still might need to buy a new monitor on top of that. I'd prefer to fix it, but If any tech-savvy people here can at least tell me that I need to get a new one without charging me, I'll settle for that too.

My computer is a HP with vista and a 22' monitor. The whole thing is just under 3 years old. Thanks to whoever can help me out.

Re: Monitor-beyond saving?

Ah, thanks. I had a friend come over and look at it and as it turns out, it was my video card. I believe it was a NVIDA 7 series. 7600 GS is what comes to mind but im not entierly sure. But now that that is established, could anyone advise me on what would be a good replacement that is around the same in power?
