Mouse and Keyboard no longer work out of nowhere.
Hey guys.
Problem- USB keyboard and mouse have just stopped responding. this happened after my monitor had been switching into sleep mode during regular use randomly and only way to get the computer back on was to restart manually. while trying to fix this i went to update my drivers. i downloaded one of my out of date drivers, installed it and restarted. after that i got to the log in screen and my keyboard and mouse dont work. i browsed the setup menu and bios and everything looked fine. upon restarting a couple more times my computer will no longer take me to the log in screen. where the log in screen should be in the boot process, it takes me to a black screen. tried safe mode, didnt work. id love to just system restore to before i messed with anything but i cant log in to get to that option. any ideas?? |

Re: Mouse and Keyboard no longer work out of nowhere.
What happens in Safe Mode? You said only that it 'didn't work'.
With hardware issues like this it sometimes pays to simply be V-E-R-Y patient and, even though it appears locked up, it may actually do some thing after several minutes of seeming inactivity. Try this in a Normal Startup first and wait at least five minutes. If you get to the login screen: 1) Is there a mouse pointer on the screen? No pointer probably means that no mouse was even detected so the drivers did not load. Try a different mouse (wired!) plugged into a different USB port on the computer (not a hub!). 2) Press the NUMLOCK and CAPSLOCK keys repeatedly. Do the NUMLOCK or CAPSLOCK lights go on and off? 3) Assuming that your speakers are on, if you press keys on the keyboard do you hear beeps? If not, try holding down any key for 5 seconds to hear if that produces any beeps. The fact that you are able to start Safe Mode indicates that the keyboard IS working at the hardware level. Your problems is certainly with the Windows drivers possibly not loading or maybe the wrong OS version? Can't go any further until we can get you past the login screen, though. Let me know how it goes. |
