[SOLVED] ITE IT8212 ATA RAID - 2nd IDE connector inactive

Hello people,

I got three hard drives and two optical drives connected to my ASUS M2N-MX SE mainboard. However, upon a necessary reinstallation of Windows XP, the ATA RAID device does no longer recognise the optical drives (CD-ROM and DVD). The way around the problem was to connect these two drives to the IDE connector on the mainboard itself.

Yes, I do know the saying "If it works, don't fix it", however, I would like to free up the IDE connector on the mainboard - and I am also very curios as to what may have happened, since no hardware changes were performed before reinstalling XP.

Original drive configuration:

Hard drive I: (SATA 1 on mainboard)
Hard drive II: (IDE 1 on IT8212)
Hard drive III (IDE 1 on IT8212)
CD-ROM R: (IDE 1 on IT8212)
DVD R/W : IDE 1 on IT8212)

Current drive configuration:

Hard drive I: (SATA 1 on mainboard)
Hard drive II: (IDE 1 on IT8212)
Hard drive III (IDE 1 on IT8212)
CD-ROM R: (IDE 1 on mainboard)
DVD R/W: (IDE 1 on mainboard)

I have reinstalled all drivers for my mainboard and hardware, including the driver for ITE8212. Service Pack 3 for Windows XP is also installed. Any comments/help would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Sincerely, Ø. Jensen

Re: ITE IT8212 ATA RAID - 2nd IDE connector inactive

I had to set the «pins» correctly (Master/Slave) on my hard drives connected with the ITE IT8212 ATA RAID. After that - voila, all problems solved! Thanks for the feedback...
