Help ordering a new computer

If I buy a 64 bit computer (currently I have 32 bit), could I still use my current printers and scanner? Given a choice between 8GB Dual Channel or 2GB CORSAIR DOMINATOR (no difference in cost) which does one choose if dosen't play games but is into photo editing (PhotoShop)?

Check the printer and scanner manufacturers website to see if they have 64 bit drivers

Re: Help ordering a new computer

Do you mean a 64 bit CPU (processor chip) or a 64 bit operating system (Windows, Linux)?

What make is the 8gb RAM that's the same price as the 2gb Corsair?

CPU and OS would be 64 bit. I don't know what brand the RAM would be. I guess whatever Dell is using at the moment.

Re: Help ordering a new computer

As simpswr says, check online to see if 64 bit drivers are available for your devices.

If you're using the computer for photo editing and working with large multi-layered files, then the amount of RAM is more important than its speed. Try and get some details about the 8gb RAM, then compare them to the Corsair, or post back if you don't understand the clock speeds and other numbers.

Re: Help ordering a new computer

I have found Vista 64 bit drivers for both of my printers. There dosen't seem to be one for my scanner. I really don't want to replace my scanner, it cost too much and does what I need doing (film/slides) very well. I guess I'll look around for a 32 bit computer. Much thanks

Re: Help ordering a new computer

You can still go for a 64 bit CPU, even if you use a 32 bit operating system.

Yes,I understand. However Dell does not do that. They don't do other things either, such as a third HD. I had to install my own third HD with the last Dell I got, no big deal.
