Software based TV tuner

I'm looking for a TV tuner that does not use hardware encoding, because I heard it causes lag. I plan to use a tuner primarily for gaming, so this is unacceptable.

1. Where can I find one? I've heard it was scarce because most newer models all use hardware encoding, but I don't even know where to start.

2. Is there a workaround? ie some way to use a hardware based tuner without any lag

What are you trying to do?

Typically it is the other way around. Software based Tv Tuner cards cause lag and hardware based ones don't.
