Re: amber monitor light

Amber indicates that the monitor is in low power mode because it does not detect any video signal from the computer. This happens when the computer is off or turns off the video after a preprogrammed interval of idle time and also if there is a problem with the connection between the computer and the monitor.

1) Try starting Windows in 'Safe Mode.' If the light stays green and video appears, it will be very ugly but it means that you simply must change your display settings to a lower resolution that this monitor is capable of running. This often happens when an older monitor is connected to a newer computer. If the light is still amber, then continue with the steps below to determine the hardware problem.

2) Disconnect the video cable from the computer and look at the pins in the end of the cable. It is normal for there to be one or two empty holes but all of the pins should be straight and about the same length.

3) If this computer has a 'plug-in' video card it may have become partially unplugged inside on the main board, especially if this machine was recently moved.

4) If another computer or another monitor is available anywhere, try connecting your monitor to the other computer or connect your computer to the other monitor to determine if the problem is with the monitor or the computer.

5) If your monitor is connected to some other device which, in turn, is connected to the computer, connect the monitor directly to the computer to be sure that the interface device is not at fault. This is a very common problem with sharing devices called KVM switches.

Hope this info helps you.
