I purchased a computer at an acution from a company that was going out of business. When I plug it in all the comes up is a screen with "property of this Company". How can I erase what is on the hard drive and reformat with my software?

Re: Start over

Hi, welcome to TSF

Download DBAN and burn to CD. Go into BIOS and change the boot order to 'CD First' and save settings. Insert the DBAN CD and reboot to run the program. This will erase the contents of the hard drive, allowing you to install an operating system.

If it won't let you into the BIOS, remove the hard drive and set its jumper to Slave, then hook it up to the middle connector on the IDE cable in a working computer. Run DBAN to erase the contents (make sure you select the correct drive letter). When it's finished, set the jumper back to Master and put the drive back in the original computer. Go into BIOS and set the boot order to CD First, then reboot and install your operating system.
