Do those CD scratch repair devices really work?

They've been around for a long time, but do those devices which claim to repair scratches on a CD (or DVD) really work? I would like to see if I can get a decent one so I don't have to re-burn my CDs again. For example, if I use this will it help my audio CDs from skipping again? Is there any recommended, but non-expensive, model? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Or, is there another effective method you recommend, like a rubbing compound, etc.?

Re: Do those CD scratch repair devices really work?

Yes, they do work, but it depends on how badly scratched the disc is. Deep scratches need to be filled in with compound. Fine surface scratches just need to be buffed.

If all your audio CDs are skipping, try a CD lens cleaner as well as the scratch repair kit.
