Exclamation Is this a good set up for a new computer?

I'm getting the original Studio Desktop from Dell (not slim)

I want it to be able to run basics like AIM, Internet Explorer, etc.
But I also want it to run newer games like: World of Warcraft, Crysis, the Orange Box, Halo 2, etc.

My customized studio desktop is: $579 $18/month

SPECS:

My Components

PROCESSOR Intel® Pentium® dual-core E5300 (2MB L2, 2.6GHz, 800FSB)

OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1

OFFICE SOFTWARE Microsoft Works 9.0

WARRANTY & SERVICE 1Yr Ltd Hardware Warranty, InHome Service after Remote Diagnosis

MONITOR No Monitor

MEMORY 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz- 2DIMMs

HARD DRIVE 500GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache™

OPTICAL DRIVE 16X DVD+/-RW Drive

VIDEO CARD nVidia GeForce 9800GT

SOUND Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio

KEYBOARD & MOUSE Dell Consumer Multimedia Keyboard and Laser Mouse

My Accessories

SPEAKERS No Speaker Option

SECURITY SOFTWARE No Security

My Software & Accessories

ENTERTAINMENT & EDITING SOFTWARE WildTangent Games

My Service

REMOTE ACCESS Dell Remote Access, free basic service

DATASAFE ONLINE BACKUP Dell Online Backup 2GB for 1 year

ALSO INCLUDED WITH YOUR SYSTEM

MEDIA READER Integrated 16-in-1 Media Card Reader

MODEM No Modem Option

Mouse Mouse included with Keyboard purchase

Adobe Software Adobe® Acrobat® Reader 9.0 Multi-Language

Network Card Integrated 10/1000 Ethernet

Labels Windows Vista™ Premium

I don't add monitor because: I have a usable HP Pavilion vf51 monitor
I don't add speakers because I have 2 Kinyo working speakers with a subwoofer
And I do not add Modem Option because I don't use dial up or have a fax machine

Is this good for to do the things I wanted to do listed above?
Please look closer as things like CPU, Video Card, RAM, and Memory.

Re: Is this a good set up for a new computer?

well it all depends on what you are going to be using your computer for. also if it is from a place like dell and other places well there are somethings that you cannot do with some of there hardware like upgrading also they seem to have allot of Bloat ware on the disks . and personally I never did care for VIsta I tryied it for a while and never liked it so I went back to XP
things like the 9800gt vid card well there is a huge variety of those Video cards and the prices ranging for 150 up to 300 CAD .
Personally I would do what I if you cannot afford to buy a whole system you are allot better off to just buy it part by part and that way you may spend around the same amount of money or even a bit more but you will be getting non generic parts and you won't be putting yourself in the hole but like I said that is just my personal opinion

Re: Is this a good set up for a new computer?

my whole DIMM slot of ram burnt from a short yesterday.

1.Its going to be used for: games (mainly ones listed above and new ones like gta 4)
Music
Basic internet access (DSL)
Aim, and other messenging software
and occasionally video editing.

1a.THe 9800gt is the highest and best one that fit that computer, not to mention quite expensive.

2.Vista is vista. I hate it but only "select" desktops have Xp and I don't want to buy another OS.

3.And what do you mean by "bloatware" and hard to upgrade? So I couldn't add my old HDD, or upgrade graphics later on, or change CPU or Ram? D:

4.Is the things like the 2.6ghz dual core cpu, 9800gt video card, 2gb ram, and 500gb memory any good and be used for the things listed in #1?

please answer #1 (things im using it for) #3 (bloatware?) and #4 (Specs?)

Re: Is this a good set up for a new computer?

well bloatware is like spyware that companies like Dell ad to things like there version Of VIsta what it is is a pile of programs that you don't need that start when your loggin into your computer for a way better explaination check out out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_bloat as for upgrading I am not sure of this because my experience with dell was a few years ago but there Mother board were made special so that you could only use dell products but your hard drive should work but it might Void any warranty that they give you but again my experience with Dell was a few years back just do your home work before you jump into anything.

you said you burn't out your dimms slots . what kind of computer do you have what are your hardware specs because you might just be able to replace the mother board and your back up and running

Re: Is this a good set up for a new computer?

its a HP pavilion 525w with a customly made ASUS motherboard

I'm not wasting because there are no cheap and efficent pci mother boards anymore which would mean i would have to by more **** to get decent graphics, cpu, etc.

I'm just going to sell back old, but good parts like geForce 8400gs, 2.4ghz single core cpu, 516mb ram, etc.
