Re: DVD/CD Drive having trouble installing Windows XP

Are you trying to install Windows using a virtual machine inside Linux, or are you using a Linux Live CD?

Is the hard drive you're installing Windows onto formatted using FAT or NTFS?

Try a DVD lens cleaner.

I can't exactly remember what file format my hard drive is but yes I am trying to install it on my harddrive and not on a virtual machine and with that link you gave me, is there meant to be a guide on how to clean the lens or something because I can't see anything?

Re: DVD/CD Drive having trouble installing Windows XP

Hi,

Is your disc completely clean and scratch free? Do you have multiple hard drives or partitions?

Have you ever successfully installed windows from that CD before?

Do you have any other bootable CDs to try and see if they boot ok?

I have tried multiple windows xp disks and I have gotten the same problem for all of them. I have installed windows from the cd's before and all my linux disks are booting fine.

one thing I have noticed though is my harddrive is actually formatted under Ext3

Re: DVD/CD Drive having trouble installing Windows XP

You can't install Windows on an ext3 drive. You'll have to create a FAT32 or NTFS partition first.
