Idea DVD or DVD Recorder/Player Problem?

Just a quickie question:
I formatted a DVD-RW disc in my Recorder/Player and recorded a TV program.
When I went to record another program, TV screen comes up with, "disc is full, unable to record".
I was under the impression that you can write/rewrite many times on these new dvd's. ...what gives...any ideas on what happening or what I'm doing wrong?
thanks

Re: DVD or DVD Recorder/Player Problem?

How much space is left on the DVD?

You can record using different quality settings. Higher quality means more space is required. What settings did you use to record?

Re: DVD or DVD Recorder/Player Problem?

thanks for the comeback....didn't do any settings, as when I inserted the dvd it automatically starting formatting the disc...there's no space on the disc to record. There is one short recording, about 1/2 hr and the rest is taken up by the other recording of 1.5 hrs. and that's all the space. So, I really don't know if there is a way to record over them...there should be, but I don't know how.
