Where's Mah Bottleneck

I've got a dualcore AMD 2.7GHz CPU and a GeForce 8600GTS 256MB video card.

I think the video card is the bottleneck, although I know both CPU and Video Card are underpowered and need upgrades, just curious as to which one is the bigger bottleneck.

Re: Where's Mah Bottleneck

Well, for gaming I would say that the video card is what is holding you back from getting better fps and settings.

Re: Where's Mah Bottleneck

I second that, although the better the graphics card the more your cpu is holding you back.

Plus Intel cpu's usually do much better than their AMD counterparts.

Where's your memory at?

Re: Where's Mah Bottleneck

a corsair 850w is a little overboard for a 8600 GT

you gonna upgrade to GTX 285 or a GTX 260 soon?

Re: Where's Mah Bottleneck

That's a good one.

But spending a little extra on a good over sized psu isn't the worse thing you could spend you money on.

Re: Where's Mah Bottleneck

I'm actually planning to upgrade to the Phenom II 3Ghz CPU and a GTX260 or higher sometime later this year. The PSU is just a necessary first step, since my current PSU is a 500W one, that can't even operate the new motherboard I bought, lol

Re: Where's Mah Bottleneck

well having a corsair 850w is a great start to having any future upgrades

I just bought one myself
yea right now your computer should be super stable power wise anyways
yea I think I'm gonna upgrade to what you're thinking about KolAddict well just a new motherboard ram and a CPU but I'm not sure if I'll go i7 or AMD depending on my budget I guess

Re: Where's Mah Bottleneck

Yeah, and I mean, if you go Phenom II with liquid cooling, they say you can oc the thing to 6-7GHz easy while still stable, which is ridiculous performance while still being much cheaper than an i7.

If i7's weren't so ridiculously expensive and require new mobos and DDR3 RAM, I'd consider moving to that, but as it were, AMD is more than capable of allowing me to play any games I want, including Crysis.

It does help that I don't care if I have a ridiculously high resolution. There's no reason to go above 1440x900 anyways.

Re: Where's Mah Bottleneck

if I got a bigger monitor too like a 22" one then the resolution would be 1650 x 1080 or something of that effect

yea liquid cooling is too expensive but an after market cooler should do the trick
