OS: win xp and win 2 k server

cd rom does not get recognised
hi,
I have win xp pro , when i insert cd , it does not get recognise.I get the error, please put inside a disk. why is it so, where as the cd rom is already there. This problem appeared after i re-installed my win xp from scratch. hardware manager does not show any driver problem! Any advice is highly appreciated. Thanx, Surinder Austria
