Did you turn on the firewall? This sounds like the BLASTER or Sasser worm.
Did you run a virus scan in safe mode? Did you try to boot with the network disconnected?

We started the firewall after the service pack was installed.
I booted up in safe mode but could not run the virus scan without the network so rebooted in safe mode with the network. I ran the virus scan and nothing showed up. Also ran spybot, registry mechanic and ad-aware. They all found things and we deleted them all. We still had problems so we uninstalled the service pack and everything was fine. We thought it might have all stemed from the fact that the virus protection was not disabled when the service pack was installed. So we disabled it reinstalled the service pack and had problems again. This time when we boot up Aol and some Dr. Watson pops up and tries to run then locks up. We are now in the process of uninstalling the service pack again. |
