[SOLVED] Is a new PATA DVD Drive compatible with IDE?

Hi,

I have an older Gateway Yorktowne desktop (from 2003) and the DVD drive can no longer read any disks. I've already tried uninstalling & reinstalling the drivers and checked the connections, etc...but nothing fixes it. I spoke to Gateway as well, who had me delete some UPPER LEVEL folder from the registry and he guaranteed it would fix my problem...HA :::eye roll:::. But anyway, I need to buy a new dvd drive now and I'm a bit confused with a spec called "PATA".

My current drive is IDE so I am looking for that, however I've noticed some IDE dvd drives are also labeled as PATA.

Does anyone know if a PATA IDE can be installed into an IDE connection and work okay? I don't want to end up buying something that won't work. I'd appreciate anyone's feedback...

PATA is parallel ATA and it is IDE.

Thank you, both, for clearing that up for me! And actually, I was considering that drive on Newegg that you linked me to. However, I ended up going with a different brand.
