keyboard problem

funny, because i too am currently suffering similar issues with my keyboard. except mine has an error message (i.e. a "!" next to my keyboard's name).

first, i am suffering issues with my usb wireless keyboard, so i thought i should buy a new keyboard, but even the new one didnt work.

ive tried to find a solution with yahoo answers with no success.

these are links to the original Qs:
1. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...0152927AALIzS6
2. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...1151004AAtAM1y

here is what i wrote:
1.
ive got a logitech ex110 usb cordless keyboard + mouse combo (but not using mouse).

when i turned on my pc and was about to login, the keyboard wasn't responding when i tried to type in my password.

i connected the keyboard to my old pc and the same thing happens.

i then restarted and checked if it works at the BIOS, and it does.
'usb keyboard support' was also set on 'enabled'.
i had to create a new account through safe mode just to get where i am now!

i tried reinstalling the logitech drivers, and that wouldnt work.
surprisingly, when i did the 'keyboard security' test, the keys were responding - ctrl+alt+f12 worked, as well as typing the random code. but after that, it wasnt responding again.

i later found some of the buttons to work, but only the f-mode and additional (eg. multimedia, volume, internet) buttons.

please help!
im about to go out to buy a new keyboard, but im not sure if it will solve the issue.

please dont ask to try other available keyboards to see if they work, because, to tell you the truth, i dont have access to another one.

p.s. to type out this question, im using the on-screen keyboard (in 'accessibility'). u can't imagine how hard, annoying, and long it is to do this...
and
2.
ok im getting desperate now.

i bought a new $50 keyboard yesterday (a usb/non-wireless MS digital media keyboard 3000 to be specific), and now this one won't work!

same symptoms as before (doesnt work at login/works in BIOS, only multimedia etc. buttons working), but it actually works on my other pc when i unplug then plug at login screen.

ive noticed both keyboards to turn off their 'lock' lights (e.g. num lock) after the windows xp logo appears, but are turned back on at login, but the keyboard doesnt respond. is that unusual?

i have already tried countless times unplugging and plugging, without success. also repeatedly reinstalling the drivers.

if it helps, in device manager under 'keyboards', there is a "!" next to the keyboard name.
also, in keyboard properties > hardware tab, it says: "windows cannot load device driver for this hardware. the driver may be corrupted or missing (code 39)"

i might take my pc to the repair shop today for advice/repairs.
i am also considering reinstalling win xp (which would be annoying), but what if the keyboard is still stuffed after that, thus restricting my progress through the OS installation process?

ANY SUGGESTIONS BEFORE I TAKE IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP?
PLEASE HELP!

Re: keyboard problem

as i stated in the second entry, i have already tried reinstalling the drivers several times.
i have tried different uninstalling methods:
- simply uninstalling the 'intellitype pro' driver in 'add/remove programs'
- uninstall keyboard driver through 'device manager'

i have also tried these reinstalling methods:
- reinstalling driver from the provided CD
- let 'add hardware' recognise it

these methods still didn't help.

sorry if the explanations are too thorough.
just to reiterate, 2 different usb keyboards, one of which is brand new, are not responding on my computer after booting up (i.e. at login, i cant type my password). only additional buttons (e.g. for multimedia) seem to respond.

thnx for responding to my issue, though. can anyone help?

Re: keyboard problem

try a cmos reset
turn the computer off
remove the power lead from the back
take the side off
remove the cmos battery
move the cmos jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pin 2 and 3 and the back to pins 1 and 2
reinsert the battery
put the side on
replug in the power lead
boot the computer

there can be 2 solder points you touch with a screwdriver
2 pins you touch with a screwdriver or use a jumper
a cmos clear switch or button
there will be a diagram and instructions in your manual

thnx for fast reply dai. by 'manual', im assuming it's my mobo manual.

apparently, my mobo has a convenient has a 'quick switch' to 'clear CMOS values'. more info on mobo: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/...ProductID=2839
is that all i have to do - press it? should i still remove the battery & move the jumper?

this wont screw up my files right?

Re: keyboard problem

with the switch you just click it,or move it over it will not affect your files
you will have to reoptimise the bios write down the settings if you are not familiar with them,so you can reset them afterwards

Re: keyboard problem

i did the method of using a screwdriver on the 2 pins to clear the cmos, but it didnt work.

i decided not to use the quick switch because i didnt know if i should remove the power cord or not.

im planning take my pc to the repair shop tomorrow. any other suggestions before i do so?

Re: keyboard problem

is pnp and usb2[high speed usb]
enabled in the bios

do you have a wired k/b or can borrow one to test with and access the device manager

in the device manager click on view at the top and in the dropdown
show hidden devices
then uninstall all listed usb items
turn the computer off
unplug usb plugs
reboot twice
replug in the usb plugs

plug and play & usb 2.0 are enabled by default when resetting to factory settings, so thats not the issue.

my new k/b, MS digital media pro 3000, is wired/usb.

when i enable "show hidden files" in device manager, it displays these non-plug and play devices. im not sure which are usb devices, or what to do exactly.
