(HELP!) My Emachine T3062 is Tweaking

Hey everyone. Sorry if I am posting in the wrong forum, I am rather new here as you can see (newb) heh. Anywho I was wondering if anyone can help me out with my current situations. I have a eMachines T3062 AMD Athlon XP 3000+ / 2GB DDR / 160GB HDD / DVD±RW Dual-Layer / Flash Media Reader / NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX / 10/100Mbps LAN / Windows XP Pro SP3 and I am having trouble with it. It seems that whenever I turn the computer on it begins to load on the windows xp screen and then the computer freezes, the screen going blank. I hear this low beep (one beep) which basically tells me my computer is frozen. I try turning it on and off a couple of times but and it does the same thing. Sometimes the screen will load and then it will freeze and turn off. My monitor (ViewSonic A95f) light will go from green to blinking like the computer is turned off. I took my computer to Comp USA and they told me nothing was wrong with it. They even showed me that it worked just fine but it did the same thing there just once unlike at home where it did it repeatedly. I don't know if its the power supply on my computer or the power running through our home but the computer was working great for a couple of years. I just dont understand why this is happening and I want to know what I can do to fix this.

Please someone help...

Re: (HELP!) My Emachine T3062 is Tweaking

Probably a graphics issue was whem my emachines exibited same. Before next boot attempt disconnect the A/C power cable for 5 seconds then try again. Replace on graphics with a geforce 4 Ti4200 or Ti5200 card. A good UPS would be beneficial.

Re: (HELP!) My Emachine T3062 is Tweaking

It would be a good idea to test the power supply with a multimeter here is a guide

http://www.driverheaven.net/guides/testingPSU/

The psu's in emachines are weak and known to fail after a few years sometimes sooner. This could be other things like a overheating cpu, make sure there is no dust clogging the cpu's heat sink clean with a can of compressed air if necessary.

Start the computer and try entering bios by tapping the F2 key reapedly when the emachine logo appears, if f2 don't work try the delete key.

When you get in bios look around foe temps and voltages and post your cpu temp and voltages of the +3.3,+5 and +12V after the computer has idled in bios for 15 minutes.

This assumes the computer will idle in bios of course let us know if it freezes in there

Re: (HELP!) My Emachine T3062 is Tweaking

hey. sorry for not posting sooner ive been super busy lately.

Doby:
I tried what you said about F2 or delete key and the delete key worked and I was in the bios. I couldnt find the voltage area so I just copied what I saw where it says the Temp and so forth.

Temp (after 15 mins) was 38 Celcius
CPU Fan speed 3668 RPM
System Fan Speed 1917 RPM

I was able to get into the PC for about 3-5 minutes but as soon as I tried to access files, the internet, or turning off the program my monitor would turn off and my computer would freeze.

bwire:
I also tried what you said and it didnt work. If its the graphics card I do not know. But I will defintely consider what you have said if necessary.

Thanks guys for taking time to post. I really appreciate it.

Re: (HELP!) My Emachine T3062 is Tweaking

Thats ok emachine bios might not report voltages but you did get the cpu temp and 38c is good and not a problem.

Since you can't get the voltages we have no way of knowing if the psu is to blame so if possible check it with a volt meter if thats not possible we can try some other things, first on another computer download UBCD

http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html

Download the ISO from a mirror site, then create a bootable cd here's some instructions

http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/tutorials.html

Pull the side cover of the computer and look at the hardrive, on top it should tell you the name of the manufacture. Then boot from the ubcd and look for utilities from the hdd's manufacture and run the extended test.

This will tell us a couple things, one if the hardrive has problems and two if the computer freezes outside of windows. Report back with results

Re: (HELP!) My Emachine T3062 is Tweaking

ok a friend of mine whos been working on computers for 10 years as a tech took a look at it and even tested the psu (which the only thing wrong with it was the 5volt that was bad but he said the psu will run fine because every other volt was ok.. He said that its not my graphics card or my psu but my motherboard as he showed me on the motherboard (these little things that look like little batteries) had popped on the top and this sort of yellowish discharge was ontop of them. He said all I need is to buy a new motherboard. im not sure if this solves my problem or what but i will just wait to hear feedback from you because I would rather hear a response from you before making my decision.

Re: (HELP!) My Emachine T3062 is Tweaking

Yes your friend is correct, the little black can looking things are capacitors and if they are buldged and or leaking the motherboard is bad and needs replaced.

A new motherboard will fix the problem but there are a couple problems

1. The emachine recovery cd won't work because it is tied to the orginal motherboard, you will need another copy of windows to reinstall the operating system, the operating system currently on the hardrive won't boot because of driver issues.
2. I am reasonably sure thats a socket A motherboard, they can be hard to find you may have to check ebay
3. Emachines power supplies are weak and usually don't hold up very long so it would be a good idea to change that as well.

You'll have to look around and add the cost up it maybe better to get a new machine
