OMG... deleted usb registry
By accident
![]() Now my mouse or keyboard won't respond. I tried rebooting in hopes that it would recognize and maybe install drivers but no luck. Keyboard is being recognized in the boot sequances as I can use the F buttons but when I get into the XP user selection, it doesn't respond. I think I am screwed :( Any help is appreciated ![]() Dell Dim. 9100 XP SP3 USB kb/mouse (kensington wireless) tried OEM and same result Last edited by Goonie; 02-18-2009 at 11:49 PM. |

Re: OMG... deleted usb registry
If you can boot into Safe Mode with the keyboard working, insert your XP CD and run sfc /snannow (note the space after sfc). More details here.
Did the keyboard come with a USB-PS2 adapter?

I have an adapter on another pc but its of no use because the 9100 tower doesn't have ps2 slots...
don't have a OEM disk, but I can order one if need be. will any xp disk work or does it have to be a dell? |

Re: OMG... deleted usb registry
As far as I know, any XP disc will work, so you can borrow one. Dell likes to do everything differently to the rest of the computing industry, so I'm not sure if this will be a problem. Hang on for some more replies from our Dell users.

Re: OMG... deleted usb registry
You should be able to use any Install cd that matches your version ( Home, Pro or MCE ) to run the sfc
You can get a replacement Reinstallation cd here: http://support.dell.com/support/topi...doclang=en&cs=
