lcd monitor problems
hi everyone, this problem has got me stumped.. any help would be much appreciated.
basically my mothers lcd monitor is playing up. once up and running, it works fine, as if there was no problem at all, no screen flickering, no dimming/fading etc - normal! BUT when first turning the PC on, the screen displays nothing except 'no signal detected' or somehting similar for a few seconds, then goes blank - no flickering for 2 seconds etc that ive read on so many other posts - NOTHING. all that happens is the green 'power' led flashes on/off around 1/second. whilst the screen is blank i tried the 'torch test', thinking perhaps it was the backlight - but all i saw was grey flickering lines coverign the screen, kinda like a tv which hasnt been tuned in to any channels, but not so severe. also these lines are in big chunks and 'skip' up and down the screen. after plugging/unplugging power and vga cables for around an hour each day, the monitor finally comes to life, and stays working absolutely fine, even to the point where i dared to turn the mon' on/off quickly, and it still worked fine as if nothign was wrong. i know it is definitely the monitor as i have tried my own monitor on the pc and it works fine, and also tried the 'faulty' monitor on ym own pc, and got nothing. i have taken the monitor apart and had a look - no obvious problems, all soldering joint that are visible look sound, all the caps 'appear' to be fine, although board testing is not an option as i have no voltmeter. anybody know what the prob could be? it seems like the mon' is desperately trying to display somehting, but just cannot get there, but i must stress it is not software related because it works 'in the end', and also does not work on amother machine. sorry for the long post regards thomas |
