Problem with USB ports/Devices

Hi,
I'm having problems with my laptop. It's not recognizing a number of my USB devices, such as my Flash disks, external DVD-ROM, external HDDs. It has no problem recognizing my mouse or external keyboard. Sometimes it does see my flash disks, but won't show any files, it shows that my flash is empty (but I can see and access all of the files if I use a different pc. Same applies to my other usb devices). I have tried google searches, but with out much luck. I have uninstalled the usb drivers and reinstalled, but still no joy. I'm at my wits end people, SOME1 HAVE MERCY ON ME!!!

The laptop specs are:

Toshiba Satellite A105
Intel Celeron Processor 1.60GHz, .59GHz
192 MB RAM
WIN XP HOME
Service pack 2

Re: Problem with USB ports/Devices

In the device manager, do you have a USB item in there with the word "Enhanced" in there? If so, then what is it?

Re: Problem with USB ports/Devices

O.K., that tells us you have 2.0 on the rig. Have you right clicked on that and selected "update drivers" on that one? If not, do that, then reboot and see if it works.

--------------------

BTW, is this the way you took care of uninstalling and reinstalling?
  • Start

  • Control Panel

  • System

  • Hardware

  • Device Manager

  • View

  • Show Hidden Devices

  • Scroll down to the USB area and open it with (+)

  • Right click on each item and Uninstall all that you have with that option

  • Reboot and let the computer find them and then test it again
.
