"Missing" Dvd And Cd Drives

When I installed the Windows SP2 update it messed my PC up. The computer would continually restart itself over and over and over again, never reaching the Windows XP logo screen. To fix this I reinstalled Windows from the CD I had.

This did the trick and my computer booted up fine. The only problem being that now my DVD drive and my CD drives are no longer recognised. Any ideas as to why this is and how I can get them back? I’ve had the computer scan for new hardware and it doesn’t seem to “see” them. When I turn on my PC both of the drives lights come on as it boots up so there is at least power going to them.

It won't hurt to insure that both ends of the cables are tightly secured. Sometimes a cable that has pulled loose a little can do strange things.

Don't worry about the registry. If something goes terribly wrong you can always just format the hard drive and clean install Windows XP. Then you can look to see if all of the cables are hooked up correctly.

I'd find it hard to re-install Windows as it is on a CD
