DVD Playback Slow / Choppy
Recently i bought a new DVD RW for my computer as the old one broke after 3 years of use.
Having only had the new device for two weeks i am having DVD playback problems with it. Have been using without issue to play dvds but when i came to use it today the playback was slow and choppy. Have already checked IDE settings and they seem correct, and cant understand why the playback would have changed overnight with only two weeks of use. Would like suggestions as to solutions. To cut out some needless responses i have already checked the following 1. windows tutorial 2. tried on several different media players 3. tried playing on ubuntu OS aswell, but that failed aswell. (although i suspect there could be any number of reasons as to that one and i dont really count that as conclusive evidence of device damage just yet) 4. tried dvd on other devices and works perfectly. thanks in advance |

Re: DVD Playback Slow / Choppy
slightly concerned about why you want to check voltages / temps etc
computer has been running for ages without issue, and cant see that there would be any hardware fault other than some issue with the drive itself. i can return it to ebuyer, but i wanted to check all other options first. regardless, if you could answer that, i will go get the temps/volts when i next log off. 8800gt Pentium d820 nforce motherboard 570w psu, antec 1.5gb of kingston ram. in 1gb stick and 512mb stick (i know ram isnt optimal, but sorting next week) |

Re: DVD Playback Slow / Choppy
the 12v line is your main line, when it shows as low as that it needs confirming that is the correct reading
if it is the psu is a problem and needs replacing but software readers are only a guide and are not always accurate you could also try a new 80 wire ide cable on the drive, yours may just have a broken wire in it they become brittle over time and removing the plug can be enough to break on of the wires

Re: DVD Playback Slow / Choppy
bios stated that it was 11.9 on the 12v line.
but i would be rather surprised if there were any powersupply issues as its from a reliable brand (antec) and is only 2 months old. |
