Here is an interesting problem Which I could do with some help with. It involves joysticks. It is not a hardware problem as such but is a fairly low level issue.
I have 3 joysticks connected to my system; which I won't bother to describe because the issue is not system specific. (trust me on this). Microsoft have acknowledged that this is an issue but as yet have no solution to it. (I opened an problem ticket with them and they did in fact log it, investigate and respond with this information). But I figure what the hey, they are not the only people with wiz kids in thier midsts. So here goes. The forcefeedback 2 or the logitech rumblepad (the Saitek is not force feedback) will not get any forces in any game unless the other 2 joysticks are disconnected. if you adjust it in the 'game controlers' control panel you will get forces and they all feel great. Play a game no forces. Disconnect the other 2 joysticks - forces in all games. As long as any other joystick is connected. No force feedback. Anyway the joysticks are Saitek GM2, microsoft forcefeedback 2 and logitech cordless rumblepad. but again it doesn't really matter which joystick I attach the force feedback only works with one connected. I figure some genius is out there who has either come across this issue before and fixed it, or knows enough about the underlying OS to come up with a solution. I currently am running windows XP SP2 though this has been the case since I ran win2000 all the way throough the SP's till now, and on the various systems (about 10 in all) that I have had during that time. Also the situation on another pc I have (completely different spec) Microsoft had me send them my complete directX config out put file, system specific files registry and god knows what else. They evetually said once more than one joystick is connected the system doensn't know where to send the forces. In the game control panel it is different becuase you are specifically selecting the joypad in question. "Well!" said I, "in comanche 4 (for instance) i select the forcefeeback 2 joystick!" "Yes," said he, "but that is via software it needs to be done -ie selected long before it reaches that layer" Well there you are, thoughts welcomed, insight appreciated, suggestions welcomed, Solutions rewarded!
