PCI IDE Raid Card Problem

I have an ITE IT8212 PCI raid card installed on my machine and I am having problems with it.

It seems to only want to read 2 drives at most and will not read a 3rd and a 4th drive.

Also can anyone tell me if I should be able to make use of a second of these raid cards in another PCI slot in the same PC.

yes all the drivers have been installed

have just gotten latest drivers and reinstalled them and still the same problem.

Also now in my 2nd pc that has the other raid card it is skipping past the raid card boot screen without giving me a chance to read it properly. I can see that it registers one drive on there (there is 2 plugged in) but windows itself is not showing any of them (even if i remove the second drive and just use one drive).

Re: PCI IDE Raid Card Problem

on the second pc the drives are a maxtor and a western digital ..... the cables might only be 40's cos thats all i have left at the moment but i know the cables are fine because if i swap them across to the ide port then the drives all register and work just fine .....

the first computer (where the card will read 2 drives but not 3 or 4) the drives are seagate barracudas and maxtors ..... and they are all formatted and once again all of the cables work just fine .....

ALL of the drives are formatted and have data on them .....

Re: PCI IDE Raid Card Problem

set the wd drive as master with the jumper set to master with slave
set the maxtor as slave with the jumpers removed
have you loaded the ite driver
check if disk management see's them

for the other
master /slave on each cable and look for them in disk management

Re: PCI IDE Raid Card Problem

I have loaded ALL the drivers that come with the PCI card ..... twice now .....

When I put the WD as master w/slave and the maxtor as slave the card reads the maxtor but not the WD.
Doesnt matter what configuration I use I lose on or the other drive regardless of which drives go where ..... it will only read one drive on each ide channel.

And no sign of the missing drive in disk management either ..... I'm at a loss to explain it .....

which raid config are you trying to set-up ............ sounds like the only option you have is JBOD (just a bunch of drives)......... other forms of raid require all drives to be exact matches .......... manuf/ size / model etc

I would try doing a windows xp repair install ........... this will not mess with your data or programs .........but will remove all windows system drivers ........... after performing the repair install .......... windows will reboot and complete a brand new hardware detection ......... at that time windows will make better use of the raid card .........

you will need to be prepared with drivers afterwards for the system

you will need to install drivers in this order !

A) motherboard chipset drivers

B) Lan drivers

C) raid card drivers

D) sound drivers

E) windows updates & service packs

F) video card driver always last !

http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XP...install.htm#RI

I would also make sure the pci slot card is in the slot closest to the cpu when the computer reboots and does the "hardware detection and set-up"

you may need to flash the bios on that card ?

Ok will have a look at all that .....

Yes it's jbod ..... the card is only there to allow me to make use of all of my ide hard drives as the board i am using only has one ide port on it and all my drives are ide .....

anyone know of any alternate downloads for the ite driver ..... the link for the latest driver on the page that lind has linked is dead .....

you may be better off getting some IDE to sata converters and running your drives off the sata ports

reading the problems with this card and the lack of information and drivers really makes me appreciate Promise brand controller cards!

have you tried this ?

http://www.download.com/ITE-IT8212-A..._4-163493.html

BTW: you cant run two controller cards in most systems .............. I have only seen a very select few that would play nice with two controller cards ......... mostly server boards

Re: PCI IDE Raid Card Problem

Yes thats the driver I have now and yeah i have been thinking about getting the converters so that I cna run the drives off the sata ports.
I had a funny feeling that it wouldnt let me use the 2 cards in one system.
but if the one card will read all four drives that it should be reading then I would be fine.

cards will run all four drives ......... just not that buggy card

I would go for this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16816102007

and no need for raid !!

Yes but this is the problem ..... I don't want to spend even more money on another card when I have already got these ones. It's just annoying that I cna't get this one to work ..... will get all my drivers in order and try the windows repair shortly and see if that helps me any .....

installed the ver 5 drivers that lind linked and still no go ..... my suppliers have adv that the only promise card they can give me is a PCI-e sata one that is no good for me ..... will try a windows repair or reinstall shortly
