Video capture using WMM
Please help me. I am trying to upload video footage from my handheld camcorder using a Firewire cable. I've plugged it in to the right port, connected it to my camera, turned the camera on... but when I go to Windows Movie Maker and click 'capture' it says that there is no video device attached. I honestly don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I put them all together, turn on the camera and try to get it working. ![]() ![]() Screencap of what happens. Last edited by Tim Redfern; 12-25-2008 at 06:49 AM. |

Re: Video capture using WMM
I tired... but the problem is my computer doesn't even know that there's a cable plugged into my Firewire port. It's just totally ignoring it, so when I go to Add Hardware it doesn't recognised any uninstalled hardware attached to my computer. :/

Re: Video capture using WMM
Just a suggestion: (don't mean to tread on any toes Dai)
By your pics above, your firewire port is part of a card reader - you should have received a disk from the maker of your computer with the drivers for it on there or if you installed the card reader yourself it should have come with a disk. Look in device manager under disk drives. If it is not there download and install Everest Home and look for the name and model of card reader under "Computer" > "Summary" > "Storage" and go to the manufacturer's website to download the drivers. It may just come up as a number of "Generic USB card devices" or something similar in which case you may have to open the case to find its make and model. Another suggestion: Have you tried plugging the firewire cable to both camera and computer then turn camera on to Play (not Record) and seeing if you can download the video content direct to your hard drive? Also did you get (and install) any software with the camera? if so you should be able to import the files using the manufacturer's software then if you want to use Movie Maker export the files from the manufacturer's software and save them, then bring them into MovieMaker using the Import Video command - long way round but...

Quote:
Is the 1394 connected to the motherboard even? Not all motherboards have a 1394 header..mine didn't, had to get a PCI card.

Re: Video capture using WMM
pull the side cover off. There will be a USB (possibly 2) and 1394 lead coming off the card reader. If it also does the front audio, then there will be leads for that as well.
