I'm getting a new video card tomorrow- (BFG Geforce 9800+)
and im noticing that my power supply is only 300watts which is major low for this card.

I have a spare power supply (Aspire ATX Switching Power Supply ATX-AS500W)

Now this psu worked fine in my old computer but its been about a year since ive used it.

I installed it into my current computer and im not getting any power.

I have the 24pin connected and the 4pin connected firmly. I have the green switch turned to on, and the voltage at 115. The green light on the Motherboard comes on.

If i press the power button on my computer nothing happens. No fans spin, no attempts, just nothing but the green light on the motherboard.

If i put my old power supply back in it works fine.

So i know these things have protections on them and such. Is there a way to reset that if its stuck in protection?

Do i need to reset the cmos on the motherboard when switching power supplies like this?

I've build several computers before but always had issues with power supplies so not sure what else to do. Starting to think ill have to save to buy another one to support my new video card...bummer.

Re: Power Supply gives Green Light on MBD but no power

I don't think a 500 watt aspire (very low quality BTW) will run the video card that you want to run. You need to be in the 650 to 700 watt range for that particular card. The power supply should be a high quality supply like one of these brands:

Seasonic – Any Model
Corsair – Any Model
PC Power & Cooling – Any Model
Thermaltake – “Toughpower” Series Only
Coolermaster – “Real Power Pro” Series Only
